All Grooms engine packages include the following quality components and proceedures.

BLOCKS

  • Dry cleaned at 650 degrees for 6 hours to remove rust and scale on the inside along with dirt and carbon on the outside
  • Magnafluxed and inspected for cracks
  • All threaded holes inspected and repaired
  • All cylinders bored perpendicular to main saddle on Rottler bar
  • Honed +/- .0002 in with a Sunnen hone
  • Deck surface is milled parallel to crank centerline to guarantee a consistent deck height, uniform compression and an ideal gasket surface
  • Main bore is align-honed to assure proper size and concentricity
  • After the block is thoroughly cleaned,  new freeze plugs and oil plugs are installed

HEADS

  • Dry cleaned, magnafluxed and inspected for cracks
  • Guides are machined for oversized valves
  • Three-angle valve seats are cut with a Serdi machine
  • Resurfaced on a CBN cutter to create an ideal gasket surface
  • Oversized valves with hard chrome stems for best possible service and life
  • Computerized spring tester verifies open and close pressure
  • Hand-built with matching springs, premium valve stem seals and individually vacuum-tested

CONNECTING RODS

  • All are reconditioned; the big end resized and the small end checked for proper interference before being assembled to new pistons
  • All are checked for center to center twist and bend and corrected

CRANKSHAFTS

  • Dry cleaned, black-light inspected for cracks, straightened, oil holes wire-brushed and chamfered
  • Plunge ground +/- .0002 in
  • Polished to 8RA using QPAC machine that guarantees surface finish and proper geometry

ASSEMBLY

  • Each engine is hand-built by one technician who signs his name
  • New parts: pistons, rings, rod & main bearings, timing gears, chains, belts, valve keepers, oil pump or kit, oil pump screen (when available), EIS gasket set, rear seals, new flat tappet lifters, cams (new or reground), brass freeze plugs
  • Sim-tested with a special, dye-injected, heated oil to verify oil pressure, flow rate and delivery, then black-light inspected for external leaks, so we know it's right before it leaves the plant
